How AR can elevate your Customer Experience

Meet Angel Nguyen, a brand new Exo team member! Angel is an expert in Augmented Reality (AR), and has joined Exo as a multimedia design associate. We’re super happy to have Angel on board, and today David is picking Angel’s brain to learn more about AR.

Over the past few years Angel has been exploring different aspects of design, and she has settled on pursuing User Experience (UX) design as Angel feels it’s the best way to make a bigger impact with her work.

According to Angel, AR is when you create an interface which allows designers to overlay digital objects and information over objects that exist in the real world. It’s a really interactive way to bring digital information into the real world! One of the most well known AR interfaces is Pokemon Go. This game is a really great example of how AR can be used to make things that would be impossible or impractical to show in the real world possible to show through technology.

For businesses, AR can be used to bring an added dimension to the customer experience. IKEA is a great example of how a business has leveraged this technology to give more value to its customers through it’s AR enabled home furnishings interface. It allows customers to see how a piece of furniture would actually look in their own homes.

The process of setting up AR doesn’t have to be complicated. This tech has been around for quite some time, and it has a lot of different capabilities. Depending on what a business has in mind, AR could be a really amazing and relatively straightforward solution.

Angel really see’s AR growing within the educational space, it could be used to overlay information on real world objects. For example, electrician training could have an interface that overlays the different component information over the top of hardware. Another example could be through launching advertising campaigns that come to life through AR. Even wall art could have a whole other dimension with this tech!

There are a lot of opportunities with AR for all kinds of applications. The process of developing AR is in 3D, so it can be a little more involved as a designer. Designers have to stop thinking about things in a 2D way, and begin looking at how their designs can make full use of the added depth.
